6 Steps to Expect During Your Monkey Wrench Plumbing Appointment

Many questions swirl around in your head before a plumbing appointment. How much will this cost me? Is the technician coming knowledgeable? How long will this process take? Will they offer a solution that meets my budget?

At Monkey Wrench Plumbing, we’ve simplified the whole appointment process. We’ve been servicing the LA area for fourteen years now, and we want to make sure you know what's going on every step of the way during your service call.

By the time you’ve finished reading this post, you’ll know exactly what to expect during your plumbing appointment.


Before Your Technician Arrives


Before your appointment you will get these things:

  • A phone call from our dispatch team when your technician is on the way.

  • A text message with a picture and a short bio of your technician.

  • A link for you to track your technician like your favorite delivery or driving app.

These three touchpoints make sure you have no surprises about what’s going to happen.


Our Appointment Process: The Agenda Card


When our technician comes to your house, they will show you The Agenda Card—pictured below. It shows the steps they’ll take throughout the entire appointment process. This way, you’re not left guessing what’s happening and what comes next.

These are the steps your technician will take during the appointment and a short description of each.

  1. Look - Your technician will inspect the concern.

  2. Thorough Evaluation - They’ll investigate the likely causes of the problem along with key parts of the system.

  3. Options - They’ll give you a few options on how to fix your issue.

  4. Approval - You’ll go over the estimates and confirm which option you want.

  5. Today - The technician can get started on fixing your problem same-day.

  6. 5-Star Experience - Our technician will strive to provide you with a 5-star experience.


Let’s break these down further with some examples.


1. The Monkey Wrench Look Step


We call this the look step because that’s what we’re doing. Monkey see monkey do! This step is where we’ll inspect what you called us out for, such as:

  • Leaks

  • Toilet gurgling sounds

  • Weird smells

  • Household size

  • Number of bathrooms

  • Water usage

To get a good idea about your unique plumbing and water needs.


2. The Monkey Wrench Thorough Evaluation Step


The thorough evaluation step is often confused with the look step, but it has an important distinction. We inspect other parts of your plumbing to ensure we solve the problem and not just treat a symptom.

We don’t want to come into your home and sell you something that’s not going to fix your issue or make a problem worse, so we can check any number of things, including:

  • Fixtures

  • Pipes going into your appliances

  • Plumbing under the house

  • Work other plumbers have done

If you’ve worked with Monkey Wrench Plumbing before, we’ll also reference our detailed notes on any work we’ve done with you. These notes make your service call quicker and more personalized.


3. The Monkey Wrench Options Step


Once we fully understand your plumbing problem, we’ll put together a list of 3-4 options with estimated pricing. We’ll walk you through:

  • What each option includes

  • What issues the options address

  • What we recommend

Sometimes when we investigate household plumbing problems, we will find other issues. This situation comes with the process of plumbing. Plumbing is hidden from sight, and unfortunately, wifi pipes aren’t a thing yet.

This new problem can be related to the reason for the appointment, and some may be unrelated issues in the making. We’ve provided an example of each below.

Example A: We come out for a single leak and find multiple leaks caused by old piping. Patching the holes would be time-intensive and won’t fix your problem. Our solution would be to install new pipes.

Example B: We came out to install a water softener and notice liquid pooling in a spot on your lawn. In this case, we would also recommend a camera inspection of your sewage pipes as well as a water softener.

4. The Monkey Wrench Approval Step


After we’ve gone through your choices, you can pick the option that best fits your needs. We understand if you need time to think things through or if you choose not to go through with our fixes. You’ll only be charged $89 for our standard house call fee.

When you do pick an option, we’ll require a signature to proceed. We also offer financing on all our services with Green Sky and Service Finance on our Financing Page. You don’t have to slap a bandage on an issue. You can make sure your problem is solved.


5. The Monkey Wrench Today Step


The next step is fixing your problem! We’ll let you know what we can work on and finish that day. If you have a more extensive issue, we can also give you an estimated timeline for any other steps going forward.

After we finish work for the day, we’ll collect payment and tell you the next steps, if any.


6. The Monkey Wrench Plumbing 5-Star Promise


This step is more of a mindset we bring to every call and every step.
